Naval Air Station Oceana
opened its first golf course in
1958. The original course made
it’s way through the many
stands of pine trees and was
very aptly named Aeropines
Golf Course. Over the years
many changes were made with
the outcome being the two
outstanding golf courses we
have today.
Today at Aeropines Golf Club we
have the Tomcat Course with
much of the original golf course
intact. It is a typical tree lined
Parkland golf course and plays a
very gentle 5158 yards from the
front tees to one with plenty of
teeth at 6798 yards from the
back.
The newer course, the Hornet
course, was opened in its
present form in 2004. The
Hornet is a typical Scottish Links
style course and measures a
very hearty 6957 yards from all
the way back at a still good
challenge from the front at 5009
yards. In July of 2005 it was the
venue for the Virginia State Golf
Associations Team
Championship.
Come give us a try, You will not
find it “a good walk spoiled”.
